What is CNC Routing?
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Routing is a subtractive manufacturing machining technology. This process utilizes a high rpm drive coupled with a precision spindle with multiple cutting tools for milling, drilling, tapping, contouring, threading and trimming for part production.
Like CNC Milling, but typically used for machining commodity and engineered plastic materials along with wood & multiple grades of aluminum. CNC routers are available in various platforms and sizes, they can be equipped with multiple machining axis’s to produce very large complex parts. The platform sizes range from benchtop routers to full sheet stock shapes capacities with much larger working volumes, much greater than standard CNC milling machine tools.
When to use CNC Routing?
This process is ideal for large parts with milling steps and features, low to high part volume, simple to complex geometries with moderate tolerances and also multi axis capabilities depending on the machine tool and product requirements.
